Assist Smyrna - Hazmat

~~Friday afternoon at 1:27pm the station was dispatched to assist Station 44 and Ambulance 64 on an accident involving a hazmat.  Rescue 45 w/6, Deputy Chief Alex Carrow and engine 45-4 w/5, Chief Wes Davis arrived to find Smyrna Units with an accident involving a pickup truck and a propane storage tank leaking.  The driver was removed from the vehicle prior to arrival of emergency services.  Rescue 45 stretched a supply line from a hydrant @ the rear of the WAWA into the scene to supply Engine 44-4.  Engine 45-4 supplied the scene from the hydrant.  Crews assisted crews from Sta 44 with dissipating the leaking propane from the 500-pound tank using an 1.75" hand line and a portable monitor.  Businesses in the area were evacuated and the operator refused treatment.  DNREC responded to the scene to assist in air monitoring and be present while the remaining product was off loaded.  Firefighter Dwayne Newnam had the 44 Command.  Fire Police from Sta 44 & 45 and DELDOT assisted with detouring traffic.  Units responding; Engines 44-4, 44-2, 45-4, Rescues 44 & 45, Sta 44 & 45 Fire Police, DNREC, DELDOT, SPD, DSP.  Photo's courtesy Jerry Hull, Joe Jones, Gene Shaner from Sta 45.
