BUSY NIGHT AT DECEMBER COMPANY MEETING
Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Already a normally busy night with our annual company elections, last night was even more so with 2 presentations to the company.  The first presentation was on behalf of Past Chief Skip Carrow and his family to the company.  As everyone knows every Christmas Eve the company takes Santa Claus around town to visit all the boys and girls of Clayton.  For the last 20 years or so Santa has ridden on a trailer behind the brush unit sitting in front of a pretend fireplace.  Seeing that the old display was in need of being replaced Past Chief Carrow contacted a friend in current Deputy Chief of the Odessa and former Past Chief of the the Townsend Fire Co. Tom Shoemaker.  Mr. Shoemaker had recent worked with a neighboring fire company on their display of a Santa Sleigh.  After working out the design and over 200 hours of labor Chief Shoemaker unveiled the new Santa Sleigh for Clayton.  Prior to the start of the company meeting Santa made his grand entry on his new ride to the delight of the members.  The company would like to join the Carrow family in thanking Chief Shoemaker for his months of hard work.  They would also like to thank several members that helped Chief Shoemaker in one way or another; Firefighter Joe Hones, Chief Wes Davis, Deputy Chief Alex Carrow, Past Chief Jeff Lightcap, Lynn Rogers of Rogers Signs in Milton and Brian Bashista of Atlantic Emergency Solutions.

Later during the meeting Lieutenant Jonathan Burnett made a special presentation on behalf of himself and his family.  Within the last year Lt. Burnett purchased the old fire station a couple doors down from our current location and is in the process of remodeling it.  During the remodeling project Lt. Burnett came across old paneling boards that were throughout the old station.  Lt. Burnett commissioned a local carpenter to take the paneling boards and create a new table for the engine room for the members to sit at.  The table is also affixed with our 3 patches; our dress patch, Taz patch and our 125th Patch.  The company would like to to thank Lt. Burnett and his family for the gift.  Photo's courtesy; Jerry Hull, Gene Shaner, Joe Jones, Tom Shoemaker
