LADDER AND ENGINE GO TO SMYRNA FOR FATAL RESIDENTAL FIRE

Sunday afternoon at 12:53pm the station was dispatched to assist Smyrna Fire Co. on a residental sttructure fire in the 200 block of West Big Woods Road south of Smyrna.  Quint 45 w/4, Captain Jack Davis and Engine 45-2 w/6, Deputy Chief Alex Carrow arrived to find the crew from Engine 44-2 with a line in service on a singlewide manufactured home with heavy fire throughout.  The crew from Quint 45 placed an additional attack line in service while the crew from 45-2 attempted a primary search.  Interior crews found heavy fire throughout and hoarding conditions and were removed from the structure not long after making entry.  After the fire had been knocked doen crews re-entered parts of the structure where a resident was located deceased.  Crews were on scene for about 2 hours overhauling.  Assistant Chief Tyler Thompson (44-17) had the Command.  Also on the first alarm was ladder and engine from Sta 43, Ambulance 64 and KM6.  The fire is being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshals Office.  Units responding;  44-10, Engines 44-2, 44-3, 45-2, 43-3, Rescue 44, Quint 45, Tower 43, Tanker 44, B-64, KM6, DSFO, DSP, Sta 44 & 45 Fire Police.  Photo's courtesy Joe Jones.
