LARGE ANIMAL RESCUE WHEATLEYS POND ROAD

Thursday afternoon the Station was dispatched for the Large Animal Rescue at 3131 Wheatleys Pond Road.  Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap arrived to find a horse which is partially blind stuck in a stream, up to his neck, on the farm.  Rescue 45 w/7 Captain Jonathan Burnett and Brush 45 w/3 also made the response.  Due to the situation the horse was in Chief Lightcap requested the response of the Kent County Special Ops Team and the Delaware Large Animal Rescue Unit which is station at the DSFS in Dover.  Upon arrival of the Special Ops units crews where able to facilitate a means to remove the horse from the stream in about 45 minutes.  The horse was checked by a local vet once it was removed from the stream and found to not have any injuries.  All units were back in service in about an hour.  Assistant Chief Lightcap had the command.  Units responding;  45-18 (Lightcap), Resce 45, Brush 45, Special Ops 43-1, Rescue 43, Light & Air 51, Engine 51-2, 53-8, 43-10 w/Large Animal Rescue Unit, FS4, A-43.  Photo's courtesy Jerry Hull.
