FIRST DUE RESIDENTAL STRUCTURE FIRE

Thursday morning June 11th at 03:52am Clayton along with Engine and Ladder Sta 44, Engine 43, Engine 26, Rescue 51, Ambulance 64 and KM6 were dispatched for the residental structure fire at 50 Nugent Loop in the Town and Country Development.  Police and EMS units arrived just ahead of the fire units and reported heavy fire showing.  Command 45 w/ AC Joe Jones and Engine 45 w/5, Capt Austin Moorhead arrived together, the engine crews established a water supply and stretched the attackline.  They were follwed closely by Ladder 44 and Quint 45 w/3, AC Jeff Lightcap.  The crew from Ladder 44 handled the primary searches, threw ladders and opened up for the engine companies while Quint 45 secured a second water supply and stretched a 2nd handline to the Delta/Charlie corner which had heavy fire and was threatening a neighbors house.  Engine 44-3 and Squad 45 w/6, Capt Jonathan Burnett arrived together, Squad 45 secured Quint 45's hydrant while 44-3 stretched the back up for the interior.  Crews encounter heavy fire on the seond floor over the garage area that was extending into the attic area.  Attack crews were able to contain the fire to area over the garage and attic with heat damage on the second floor.  The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes.  Remaining crews from Engines 43-3,43-2, E-26, KCM E-2, R-51 and Tower 43 assisted with various other tasks on the scene.  All searches were negative.  All units were back in quarters by 7am.   The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating.  There were no injuries.  Queen Annes County Quin 6 covered Station 45.  Shortly after arriving on the scene of the first alarm Sta 45, Command 44-9, 44-2, Tower 43, KCM E-2 and NCC Quint 1 responded to a second house fire at 224 Nugent Loop which was around the corner from the first fire.  That alarm was quickly placed under control and was the result of smoke in the residence from the first fire.  Photo's courtesy Curt Gruber from Stat 44 and Jason Grabowski.  Units responding;  Command 45, Engines E-45, SQD-45, 44-3, E-26, 43-3, 43-2, KCM E-2, Quint 45, Ladder 44, Tower 43, Rescue 51, Light & Air 51, A-64, KM6, FM-28 (Brode), Clayton PD, Smyrna PD, Red Cross.
