DUMPSTER FIRE KEEPS VOLUNTEERS BUSY FOR A COUPLE HOURS

Wednesday afternoon at 4:23pm the station was dispatched for a dumpster on fire with exposure to a structure in the 1800 block of Sunnyside Rd.  Responding units were advised a dumpster was on fire with exposure to a barn.  Command 45 w/Deputy Chief Alex Carrow arrived to find a large roll off type dumpster involved close to a small storage building and established Clayton Command.  Engine 45-3 w/6, Chief Wes Davis arrived behind the chief and placed a hand line in service.  The engine was followed closely by Engine 45-4 w/6, Past Chief Jeff Lightcap and Rescue 45 w/3, Firefighter Skip Demczak.  Both units supplied 45-3 with water while their manpower assisted with extinguishment and overhaul.   A Storage building near the dumpster received minor damage.  Crews worked for over an hour to extinguish and overhaul the dumpster.   Tanker 44 was requested to the scene to assist with water supply but was canceled prior to arrival.  All units were back in quarters by 1800.  Units responding Command 45, Engines 45-3, 45-4, Rescue 45, Tanker 44, Sta. 45 Fire Police.  Photo courtesy Alex Carrow
