ENGINE AND RESCUE GO TO SMYRNA FOR RESIDENTAL STRUCTURE FIRE

Sunday afternoon at 5:41 the station was dispatched for the engine and rescue to assist Station 44 Smyrna on a high life hazard structure fire at 2 Juanita Drive in the Spruance City area of their district.  At the time of dispatch Smyrna was just arriving on scene of a multi car accident with a subject trapped on RT1 nb @ Exit 119.  Engine 45-3 w/4, Lt. Jonathan Burnett and Rescue 45 w/7, Past Chief Jeff Lightcap arrived to find the engine company from Smyrna with a line stretched on a 3 story end of the row townhouse with smoke showing and heavy smoke on all three floors.   The crew from 45-3 was assigned as a special service unit and began throwing ladders.  The fire was located in a clothing dryer on the second floor.  Crews were able to extinguish the fire with a water can.  The rescue crew assisted with overhaul and salvage operations.  Damage was limited to the dryer and smoke damage.  Assistant Chief Dave Neeld had the Juanita Drive Command.  The fire was being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshal Office.  Units were on scene for a little over an hour.  Units on scene; Engines 44-2, 44-3, 45-3, Ladder 44, Rescue 44, Rescue 45, B-64, KM7, Smyrna PD, FM13 (Schad).  Photos courtesy Joe Jones.
