NATION PREPARES TO REMEMBER 9/11
Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Once again the country prepares to remember the terrorist’s attacks on our nation that occurred on September 11, 2001.  This year will mark the 16th Anniversary of that dark moment in our nation’s history when almost 3,000 people were brutally killed on attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City, The Pentagon in Arlington Va, and Shanksville Pa.   Of the nearly 3,000 people the emergency services, Fire, Police and EMS, were hit extremely hard.  The Fire Department of New York lost 343 Firefighters, the New York Police Department lost 23 Officers and the Port Authority Police lost 37 Officers.   As since the 1st anniversary of the attacks the Smyrna/Clayton Community has been paying tribute to those lost.  This years event will take place on Monday September 11th at 7pm at the Citizens Hose Company at 103 W. Commerce St. and will be concluded with a candle light vigil honoring those lost on that day, especially the first responders.  The guest speaker for this years program will be Richard Arroyo who is the Colonel of the Delaware River & Bay Authority Police Dept. and a retired officer with the New Jersey State Police.  The event is sponsored jointly each year by the Smyrna/Clayton Magisterium and the Smyrna/Clayton Past Chiefs & Past Presidents Association.
