As part of the firefighting training schedule on Monday September 19, 2017 the Delaware State Fire School presented to 40 members of the fire company a class on fire behavior. "Understanding fire and what it will do in various circumstances is critical in controlling the fire, the damage caused from the fire, and making it home safely" stated training officer Ray Johnson. This class is very important in the firefighters overall training, it is much more then putting water on a fire. Members were shown what a fire will do when a door or window is opened in a fire, simple things like keeping a door closed until you have a hose line in place can go a long way in keeping fire damage at a minimum. "Learning when to or not to cut a hole in a roof or not opening a window until it is necessary allows a more efficient control of the fire" stated fire chief Wes Davis. It is important for firefighters to understand things about how a fire travels and how the environment around the fire can affect how you can put it out and survive. The second part of the training will; be conducted next week at the state fire training center located in Dover when members will gear up and do the training in a live fire environment.
