ENGINE GOES TO TOWNSEND FOR RESIDENTAL STRUCTURE FIRE

Thursday morning at 08:36 the station along with several other mutual aid companies from New Castle, Kent Counties in Delaware and Kent and Cecil Counties in Maryland were dispatched to assist New Castle County Station 26 Townsend on the residential structure fire in the 300 block on Vandyke Greenspring Road.  Engine 45-3 w/4, Past Chief Jeff Hurlock respnded in minutes and arrived to find units from Townsend, Odessa and Smyrna on scene with several lines in service on a 2 story residence and a detached barn both were well involved.  The crew from 45-3 went to work placing an additional line in service to assist with fire attack.  Additional resources were requested by the Command Officer which equaled a 3rd alarm.  The residence was a 18th century residence that was on the National Historic Register since 1992.  Both the residence and barn were a total loss.  No injuries were reported.  Lieutenant Ray Clake from Townsend had the Command.  Engine 45-3 was back in quarters just prior to noon.  During the call the station had 2 additional crews in the district to cover any additional calls.  The fire was rules arson by the Delaware State Fire Marshals Office which arrested one male.   Photo courtesy Heather Davis Orkis.
