Christmas Eve just as trucks were leaving for our "Operation Santa" the station along with Tanker, Engine and Rescue 44 and Tanker and Squad from Station 26, Ambulance 64 and KM6 were dispatched for the chicken house on fire at 195 Black Stallon Road. With crews in the Station Command 45 w/Deputy Chief Alex Carrow, Engine 45-3 w/6, Lt. Jonathan Burnett and Quint 45 w/6, Past Chief Jeff Lightcap were quickly on the street. Command 45 arrived to find a 25' x 500' chicken house with fire showing from D end of the building. Crews from 45-3 and Quint 45 stretched a 250' line for fire attack. Engine 44-3 w/Capt. Pierson arrived along with Tanker 44 w/ Asst. Chief Neeld. The crew from 44-3 stretched a second line while Tanker 44 established a water supply to 45-3. Assistant Chief Neeld was assigned the Water Supply Officer. Additional equipment from Station 44 and 26 arrived and assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. Engine 51-3 which was enroute to Station 45 for a cover assignment was redirected to the scene for additional manpower. Engine 2 Millington responded for the cover assignment. Damaged was contained to one end of the chicken house. The fire is under investigation by Delaware State Fire Marshals Office.
