LIFE MEMBER JAMIE TURNER ANSWERS HIS FINAL ALARM SERVICES HELD 010318

On Wednesday January 3, 2018 the Clayton Fire Company honored one of it's own. James E. (Jamie) Turner, III was honored in a Celebration of Life Service held at the fire station, according to the funeral home approx. 2,100 friends of Jamie paid their respects to a fire service Icon. The viewing started at 1100 hours and was to end at 1300 hours. With more then 150 friends still waiting, a Masonic Service was conducted with 105 Masons paying respects to Jamie. Once the remaining friends were through the line the service started at 1430 hours. Franck Richardson another fire service Icon gave the eulogy then opened the floor for friends to speak. Kim Jamie's oldest daughter shared some of her best memories would her dad, then Bob Foraker of Port Penn shared some memories, followed by Past Chief Dave Mast of the Clayton Fire Company. Chaplin Rich Walton of te Clayton Fire Company then closed the service with some words of the Lord.

Updated:  Services held for Life member James E Turner III.  Today the company and the emergency service community from around the state and region said good bye to 50 year Life ber James E. Turner III.  Services were held at the Clayton Fire Company with a viewing that began at 11am.  The viewing which was supposed to end at 1pm ended shortly after 2pm because of the the amount of people who had attended.  A service of Mr. Turners life was held immediately following the viewing.  Again we ask you to please keep the Turner Family in your thoughts and prayers.  

 

UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION: Services to he held on Wednesday January 3, 2018 at the Clayton Fire Station located at 300 East Street Clayton,, DE 19938. Visitation from 1100 to 1300 hours, with a Masonic Service to held held at 1300 hours. A celebration of Life Service will be held after the Masonic service. Interment will be private.

The members of the Clayton Fire Company regrets to announce the passing of Life Member James E. (Jamie) Turner III. Jamie answered his final alarm today after a long battle with cancer. Jamie has a long history of public service starting with his father James Turner a long time firefighter with both Clayton and the Citizen's Hose Company of Smyrna. Jamie's dad was a retired Delaware State Trooper. Jamie started his fire service career as a junior member of Clayton in 1967 rising to the rank of Deputy Chief. Jamie held many line and administrative offices in Clayton. Jamie begin his professional career in the emergency services as a radio operator for the Delaware State Police assigned to Troop 3, in 1975 he moved to the Delaware State Fire School as a senior instructor from where he retired in 2001. Jamie then went onto the position as the first Executive Secretary of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association. In 2002 Jamie was appointed by then Governor Ruth Ann Minner as Director of the Delaware Emergency Management Agency where he retired from in 2016. During his career he became known as one of the go to guys for HazMat, not only in Delaware but Nationally. One of the things that Jamie was most proud of was taking and passing the EMT National Registry becoming one of the first 1,000 EMT's trained in Delaware. Jamie was a very active Mason serving as Master of Harmony Lodge #13 in Smyrna as well as having served on the Grand Staff for the State of Delaware. In Spite of all of his fire and emergency services accomplishments he was most proud of his family, he is survived by his wife Debbie, daughters Kim and Katie as well as 4 grandchildren.
