ENGINE AND LADDER GO TO MARYLAND FOR STRUCTURE FIRE

Friday morning at 01:22 the station was dispatched for the engine to assist Kent Md Sta 2 Millington on the large non dwelling structure fire in the 33000 Block of Golts Road n/o Massey Md.  Engine 45-3 w/5, Deputy Chief Alex Carrow arrived to find the engine companies from Millington and Galena with a hand line each in service on a 40' x 500' chicken house with heavy fire showing from the far end.  Engine 45-2 was requested to lay an additional supply line up the lane and supplied Tower 27 once it arrived.  Quint 45 was dispatched on the second alarm and responded w/3, Captain Craig Snyder.  Crews from both nits assisted with fire attacked and overhaul.  The fire was contained to half of the chicken house but unfortunately approximately 24,000 chickens perished in the blaze.  The ladder was in service for about 1.5 hours while the engine was in service for about 4 hours.  Deputy Chief CJ Morales from Millington had the Command.  The fire is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office.  Companies that responded; Millington Md, Galena Md, Clayton, Townsend, MIddletown, Kennedyville Md, Betterton Md, Chestertown Md, Sudlersville Md, Church Hill Md. and EMS units from Kent County Md.  Special Thank You to Hartly Vol. Fire Co. for covering our first due during the alarm.  Photo's Courtesy Nevin Steffy from the Galena Fire Co.
