VOLUNTEERS OF CLAYTON START THE WEEK WITH A BUSY MONDAY

The Volunteers of Clayton started an already busy scheduled week with the start of the DVFA Conference opening this week, a company meeting, the Annual 9/11 Memorial Service and possibly dealing with the effects from Huricane Florence with a 4 call Monday.  The Volunteers were first alerted at 12:22 am for the engine to assist Volunteer Hose of Middletown with a gas leak in the building at the Lowes 500 W. Main St in Middletown.  Engine 45 w/6, Deputy Chief made the response and staged with other mutual aid companies til releaed by the OIC.  At 9:14 the station along with Ambulance 64, KM6, KM5 and Trooper 4 were alerted for the auto accident with a vehicle overturned at 500 N Bassett St.  Responding units were advised the subject was still in the vehicle.  Rescue 45 w/3, Past Chief Jeff Hurlock and Engine 45-3 w/7, Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcapt arrived to find a pickup truck on its top in a ditch with the driver egress challenged.  The crew from Rescue 45 stablized the vehicle, stretched a handline and assisted the operator from the vehicle.  The sole occupant was transported to the ER with minor injuries.  At 11am the station was alerted again this time for an automatic fire alarm in a residence at 28 Ivy Glen Court in Heritage Trace.  Engine 45-2 w/4, Captain Jonathan Burnett and Engine 45-3 w/2, Firefighter Vernon Berghorn responded and arrived to find the alarm had been set off by unattended cooking.  Finally at 3:31pm the station was alerted for a smoke detector going off in a residence at 28 Carrington Court in The Village of Wheatleys Pond.  Command 45 w/Asst. Chief Jeff Lightcap, Engine 45-2 w/4, Past Chief Jeff Hurlock, Engine 45-3 w/6, Firefighter Joe Jones and Rescue 45 w/5, Firefighter Frank Sacco IV arrived to find a middle of the row townhouse with a smoke detector going off inside.  Crews checked the interior and located a malfunctioning smoke detector.  Photo's courtesy Jerry Hull.
