LADDER AND BOTH ENGINES GO TO TOIWNSEND FOR COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE

Monday morning at 02:19 the station was alerted for the engine as part of the first alarm assignment for the commercial structure fire at Willey Farms 4092 Dupont Parkway in Townsend.  Engine 45-2 w/6 Deputy Chief Alex Carrow and Engine 45-3 w/5, Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap arrived with other first alarm companies to find a one story market with heavy fire through the roof.  The crews from both engines went to work placing several handlines in service for fire attack.  Quint 45 w/3 was picked up on the second alarm once they arrived they went to work opening up for the engine companies.   The fire went to 7 alarms bringing fire departments from New Castle and Kent Counties in Delaware, Cecil and Kent Countyies in Maryland and Salem County New Jersey, Delaware & Chester Counties in Pa.  The building which was over 60,000 square feet was a total loss.  Assistant Chief Ray Clark had the Command.  Two firefighters were transported to local emergency rooms for injuries.  One Clayton Fireman recieved a minor shoulder injury but did not require transport.   Photo's courtesy Joe Jones, Jerry Hull, Mike Carroll from Sta 45 and James Morgan from Sta 44.
