CLAYTON FIRE COMPANY LIFE SAVING AWARD AND UNIT CITATION FOR CPR SAVES

During the annual awards program Fire Chief Alex Carrow recognized several members for their part in two successful CPR saves during the last year.  .

On January 20, 2019 the station was dispatched along with EMS units from Abulance 64 and Kent County Medics KM6 for a CPR at 855 Salter Road northwest of Clayton.  Assistant Chief Joseph Jones who was the Duty Officer for the week responded immediately from his residence to the scene about 6 miles away and arrived to find a family member performing CPR on a female patient who had no pulse and was not breathing.  Assistant Chief Immediately placed the AED that is carried on all Clayton apparatus into service and shocked the person one time.  Assistant Chief Jones then continued CPR until the arrival of Rescue 45 and ALS & BLS.  Because of the direct actions of Assistant Chief Jones and the continued care by the other Fire and EMS personnel on scene the patient survived the event.  Becuase of his actions Assistant Chief Josephe C. Jones Jr. was awarded the Clayton Fire Company Life Saving Award and the crew of Rescue 45 which consisted of Driver Past Chief James R. Johnson, Officer Crewleader Ryan Womax, FF Brian Hunter, FF James Demczak and FF Chrles Kelchner were awarded a unit Citation.  Congratulations to all these individuals on their well deserved awards.

On January 28, 2019 the station along with Ambulance 64 and Kent County Paramedics were dispatched to 240 Stirrup Road in the Jockey Hollow Development.  Firefighter David Ross and 2nd Assistant Chief Robert J. Lightcap who both live about a mile away responded to the scene directly and arrived together.  Firefighter Ross began CPR while A/C Lightcap prepared the AED.  The AED shocked the patient and both members began CPR again.  Captain Craig Snyder and FF Charles Kelchner who were in the department Command Vehicle and also in the area arrived behind FF Ross and A/C Lightcap and immediately jumped in to assist with CPR until the arrival of Rescue 45 and BLS & ALS units.  Because of the direct actions of Firefighter David Ross, A/C Robert J. Lightcap, Captain Craig Snyder, FF Charles Kelchner and the continued care from the arriving Fire/EMS crews the patient made a full recovery and was talking to them prior to leaving the scene.  Because of the actions of Firefighter David Ross, A/C Robert J. Lightcap, Captain Craig Snyder and FF Charles Kelchner was awarded the Clayton Fire Company Life Saving Award and the crew of Rescue 45 consisting of Driver Michael Thompson, Officer Chief Alexander C. Carrow, Captain Jonathan Burnett, FF Amber Johnson and FF Joel Tallhammer were awarded a Unit Citation.  Congratulations to all thede individuals on their well deserved awards.
