Monday afternoon at 4:38pm the station along with Engine, Ladder and Tanker Station 44, Rescue Station 51, Tanker Station 26, Amb. 64,Amb 43, Amb 51, KM5, KM6, KM7, Trooper 4 and Trooper 2 were dispatched for trailer fire with subjects reported trapped at Kenton Circle in the Clayton Courts Mobile Home Community. Command 45 w/Captain Austin Moorhead arrived within minutes of dispatch and reported a singlewide mbile home with fire showing and confirmed entrapment. As Captain Moorhead was exiting his vehicle a Police Officer from Clayton PD and one from Smyrna PD were removing a male victim through a bedroom window to the outside. Once outside the male victim reporting that his mother still inside. Captain Moorhead passed Command to the Officer of Quint 45 and immediately donned his PPE and SCBA and made entry into the trailer through the same window and under high heat conditions and without the protection of a hoseline began searching for the female occupant. Captain Moorhead was followed closely by Engine 45-2 w/5 Assistant Chief Joe Jones, Quint 45 w/6 Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap and Engine 45-3 w/6, Past Chief Jeff Hurlock. The crew from 45-2 split their crew with the engine officer and 2 Firefighters securing a water supply and placing a handline in service while Past Chief Robert Davis also made entry through the same window as Captain Moorhead and began to assist in searching for the second victim. The second victim was quickly located by the two and with the assistance of the interior crew from Quint 45, Captain Jonathan Burnett and Firefighter Jason Sacco and a Firefighter from 45-3 Dave Ross assisted with removing the female through the bedroom window to 2 awaiting Clayton firefighters who were in the area and several Police Officers. The firefighters and police officers immediately began rendering care to the victim until arrival of EMS crews. The remainder of crew from Engines 45-3 placed a second handline in service. Both victims were removed within 5 minutes of the arrival of the fire department and police. One was Flown to Chester Crozer Burns Center in Pa were she is listed in Critical Condition while the male was transported via ground to Bayhealth Kent Campus in Dover where he was treated and eventually transported to Chester Crozer Burn Center in Pa he was also listed in Critical Condition. A third victim a small child that was at first unaccounted for but was located at a neighbors home was also transported to the hospital for evaluation. Rescue 45 w/4, Deputy Chief John Pridemore, Engine 44-2 and Ladder 44 arrived behind the first units 44-2 secured the water supply to 45-2 while the crew from Ladder 44 handled the secondary search. Additional crews from Hartly and Townsend assisted with various tasks on the fire scene. The fire was quickly placed under control. Crews worked for just over an hour to overhaul and check for extension. The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating. Damage to the trailer was extensive and reported to be at $50,000.00. Two Clayton Firefighters recieved minor injuries (one a cut to the hand the other smoke inhalation) and refused transport. Assistant Chief Lightcap had the Command. Units responding; Command 45, Engines 45-2, 45-3, 44-2, Quint 45, Ladder 44, Rescue 45, Rescue 51, Tanker 44, Tanker 26, A-43, B-64, C-64, B-51, KM6A, KM5A, KM7A, Trooper 4, Trooper 2, Clayton PD, Smyrna PD, FM-15 (Sipple), FM12 (Bullock), FM 28 (Brode) FM2 (Chionchio).
