MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT SENDS 6 PEOPLE TO LOCAL ER'S AND LEAVES ONE DECEASED

Thursday evening at 7:13pm the station along with ambulances from Sta's 64, KM6, KM5 and Trooper 4 were dispatched for the vehicle accident with serious Hemorrhage in the area of 1775 Wheatleys Pond Road.  Command 45 w/ Deputy Chief John Pridemore responded immediately.  He was advised calls were now reporting 5 injuried with 2 subjects trapped.  This information added ambulances from Sta 53, 56, KCMD 2 and KM7.  Command 45 & EMS arrived to find a 2 vehicle accident with the front of a pickup truck onto of the rear of a passenger cars.  Two of the 3 rear seat passengers in the passenger car were heavey trapped.  Rescue 45 w/8, Captain Jonathan Burnett, Brush 45 w/4, Past Chief Wes Davis and Engine 45-2 w/3, Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap arrived behind the chief and EMS units and immediately went to work stablizing the vehicles and extrication.  Because of heavey entrapment command requested an additional rescue, which added Rescue 44 from Smyrna.  Engine 45-2 w/3, Captain Austin Moorhead also responded with Resccue 44.  The first patient was extricated in about 9 minutes while the second patient was extricated in 22 minutes.  A total of 5 patients were transported to Bay Health Kent Campus while the 6th patient was transported to CER.  The accident is under investigation by the Delaware State Accident Reconstruction Unit.  The roadway remained shut for approximately 8 hours.  Due to the sensative nature of the accident no photo's from the scene will be posted.  Units responding Command 45, Rescue 45, Rescue 44, Engine 45-2, Engine 45-3, Brush 45, Ambulances B-64, D-64, B-53, B-56, KCMD 2, KM5, KM6, KM7, Trooper 4.
