GAS LEAK KEEPS VOLUNTEERS BUSY FOR SEVERAL HOURS

fRIDAY AFTERNOON AT 4:36PM the station was alerted for the residental gas leak t 40 Loder Dr. in the Timber Mills development.  Units arived to find a that a resident had been using an auger to dig holes for a fence post had struck a 2" gass line to the development.  Firefighters placed a handline and 2 portable master streams in service control the leak and to dissipate the fumes and evacuated people from the immediate area.  Chesapeake Utilities responded and was able to secure the leak.  Once the leak had been controled firefighters checked the interiors of several homes in the area to make sure no lingering odors were in the residences.  Deputy Chief John Pridemore had the command.  While units were operating at the gas leak the station also responded to assist EMS with a medical emergency on Holletts Corner Road.  Photo's courtesy Marc Gray and Kevin Wilson.  Units responding; Command 45, Engines 45-2, 45-3, Quint 45, Sta 45 Fire Police and Chesapeake Utilities.
