Sunday evening December 8 at 7:14pm the station along with Ladder and Engine 44, Engine 43, Rescue and Engine 51, Ambulance 64 and KM6 were dispatched for the residental structure fire at 403 Main St. in Clayton. Responding units were advised of a possible subject trapped. Prior to arrival units were advised Clayton PD was on scene reporting smoke showing and that the resident was outside the structure but was needing EMS. Command 45 w/ Assistant Chief Joe Jones arrived to find a 2 story MFD with fire out a window on the first floor on the B side of the structure. Engine 45-2 w/6, Captain Jonathan Burnett arrived behind the chief. The crew from 45-2 secured a water supply and stretched a handline. The engine was followed closely by Quint 45 w/6, Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap and Ladder 44. Crews from both ladders went to work on the primary searches, laddering the structure and started opening up for the engine companies. Engine 45-3 w/6, Firefighter Dave Ross, Engine 44-3 and Rescue 45 w/4, Deputy Chief John Pridemore followed the ladders. The crew from the engines stretched the backup line and checked the second floor and attic for extension. Engine 43 was assigned the RIT. The fire on the first floor was quickly brought under control. Command scaled the response back to 45 and 44 units. The sole occupant of the residence was transported to Bay Health Kent for treatment. The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating. Squad 26 covered Station 45 during the call.
