BLAST FROM THE PAST - 1979 DVFA CONVENTION PARADE- CHRISTIANA DE

In 1979 the State of Delaware held their annual convention parade in Christiana Del.  The end of every convention was always the firemans parade.  In those days the parade was attended by thousands of people, lasted usually 3 hours long and had every fire company in the state and numerious companies from PA, NJ, Md and Va attend it.  At this years parade the the company marched for the first time in their new uniforms and in a new formation.  Prior to this Clayton wore tan pants and a tan shirt with a red dickie and marched in the form of a cross.  They were known up and down the Delmarva Pennisula for their uniforms and their unigue formation that was not equaled.  This years marching unit was lead by Fire Chief Robert J. Carson who was accompied by his chief officers; Deputy Chief David J. Mast, 1st Assistant Chief William Timmons and 2nd Assistant Chief William C. Donavon Jr.  At the parade Clayton was awarded the Best Appearing Fire Company without Music.
