During the annual Delaware State Fire Chief's Association meeting held on September 16th at Chesword, Asst. Chief Michael Hignutt of the South Bowers Fire Company was presented with the Heroic Firefighter of the Year Award. Chief Hignutt on June 30th rescued two person from the Murderkill River after one could swim in the strong currant and another after they jumped in to assist. Two others lost their lives that day. Chief Hignut not only performed the rescues, but then commanded the rescue/recovery operation the remainder of the that day and again on July 1st.
The members of the Clayton Fire Company would like to congratulate Chief Hignutt on his award.
