FIRST DUE STRUCTURE FIRE DESTROYS MECHANICS SHOP

Friday morning February 17th just prior to noon the station along with mutual aid companies were dispatched for the large non dwelling fire in the 1000 Blk of Blackbird Forest Rd. northwest of Clayton.  Since this was in a non hydranted area several tankers were requested to respond.  Smyrna's Command vehicle 44-9 w/Capt. Dias arrived first and reported the structure was involved.  The structure was a 40' x 80' mechanics shop located behind a residence.  Command 45 w/Chief Morrhead arrived behind 44-9 and established command.  Units arrived and placed several handlines in service along with the master stream off Tower 45 to control the fire in about 45 minutes.  Crews remained on scene for over another hour completing overhaul.  The building with all the contents were a total loss.  The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating.  There were no injuries.  Units responding;  Command 45, Command 44-9. Engine 45 w/4, FF Demczak, Engine 44-3, Engine 26, Squad 45 w/4, FF Martin, Squad 4. Tower 45 w/3, FF A. Moorhead, Tower 27, Tanker 44, Tanker 26, Tanker 24, Tanker 53, Rescue 44, B-64, KM6, FM 15 (Sipple), FM 12 (Bullock).  Dover engine 4 and QAC Quint 6 covered Station 45.  Pictures courtesy Mike carroll.
