The company is mourning the passing of Life Member and 50 Year Member Harry B. O'Neal who passed away on Wednesday October 18th after a long illness. Benny joined the company in the mid 60's as a Junior Member. during his years of membership Benny held several positions within the company to include Director and Secretary. Benny was also a Fire Police for several years. Outside the company Benny was President of the Kent County Firefighters Association in 2019. He was also a member and Past President of the Leipsic Vol. Fire Company. Benny has several family members that are a member of either the Clayton Fire Company or the Leipsic Vol. Fire Co.. .Harry B. “Benny” O'Neal of Smyrna, Delaware passed away on October 18, 2023 at age 71. Born November 30, 1951 in Clayton, Delaware to Clarence R. O’Neal, Sr. and Paulena C. O’Neal, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clearance R. O’Neal, Jr. and Michael Joseph O’Neal, nephew Jason P. Pandel, niece Laura A. Lloyd.
He is survived by his wife Theresa M. O’Neal, Son Joseph H. O'Neal (Patricia Lowman), Daughter Heather D. Boots (Michael Boots), Son Jason Wishman, Son Ryan Duker, Daughter Brianna Taylor. Sisters Lisa A. Lloyd (Mark Lloyd), Sister P. Elizabeth “Beth” Pandel, (Brent Pandel), Sister Kathleen M. O’Neal (David), Sister-in-law Kathy Y. O'Neal, and Aunt Kathryn M. Morman. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and Lifelong friends Richard Chase, Jeff David (Pooh Bear), Wayne Gryzick, Ron Burnett (MeatBall) and friends too numerous to mention.
He was a former employee of the Delaware State Police and Penske Logistics. He was a Life Member of the Clayton Vol. Fire Company, Member and Past President of Leipsic Vol. Fire Company, as well as the Past President of the Kent County Vol. Firefighter Association, he has also served as Kent County Fire Police during his time in the fire service.
He enjoyed his family gatherings and in his later years he enjoyed working at the Cedar Swamp Lottery Station. Benny enjoyed his family more than anything but a close second would be any western movie including John Wayne.
Services will be held at Faries Funeral Home at 29 South Main St. Smyrna, DE with visitation at 10 a.m. with service at 11 a.m. on Oct. 28, 2023.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Delaware Hospice or Kent County Volunteer Firefighter Association Scholarship Funds.
