TOWER LADDER, ENGINE, SQUAD AND DUTY TRUCK GO TO SMYRNA FOR SMOKE IN THE HOSPITAL

Sunday morning during the companys annual CPR/AED Refresher the station was dispatched to assist Smyrna on the High Life Hazzard Structure Fire at the Delaware Home and Hospital at 100 Sunnyside Road.  Responding units were advised that there was the report of a fire alarm going off with a strong odor of something burning in the building and that they were evacuating the patients.  Tower 45 w/4, Engine 45 w/6 and Squad 45 w/5 arrived with Smyrna units.  The crew from Engine 45 (2nd due Engine) assisted the crew from Engine 44-2 (1st due engine) with stretching and extending a 2.5" handline while the crews from Tower 45 (1st due special) and Ladder 44 (2nd due special) handled the primary searches and began to attempt to locate the source of the smoke.  Squad 45 (3rd due engine) and Squad 53 (4th due engine) stood by a second hydrant.  Crews were able to eventually locate the problem in a HVAC system.  Captain Conrad had the Smyrna Command.  Units responding Engines 44-2, 44-3, Engine 45, Engine 43-2,43-3, Squad 45, Squad 53, Tanker 53, Ladder 44, Tower 45, Tower 43, EMS A-64, B-64, KM5, KM6.
