HOSE HANDLING FIRE SCHOOL AT THE STATION

On Monday March 4, 2024, the Clayton Fire Company conducted a class in handline hose deployment. From pulling the line off the engine, moving it to a location, and then placing the hose back on the engine. Lt. Jason Sacco stated, “proper hose handling is one of the most basic things we do in the fire service and one of the most important we do, getting water on a fire quickly and effectlly is the best way to extinguish the fire and limit damage”. Members practiced removing a handline from the rear of E-45, moving the line to a predetermined location with the assistance of members to ensure the line is kink free, and then repacking the line on the engine so when it is needed again it can be removed without any issues. Chief Moorhead stated, “hose handling is not something that is fun or exciting, however it is important for our members to understand that it is one of the most important things we do and the better we are the better we are at assist the citizens of our fire district”. The group of firefighters attending the training tonight ranged from 14 to 70 years old all working together.
