HOUSE FIRE SENDS ONE PERSON TO LOCAL HOSPITAL

Wednesday evening April 23 at 6:45pm the Volunteers of Clayton along with mutual aid from the Citizens Hose Co of Smyrna, Townsend Fire Co., Community Fire Co. of Millington Md., American Legion Ambulance and the Kent County Paramedics were dispatched for the house fire in the 3500 block of Holletts Corner Rd.  Responding units were advised the caller was reporting their living room was on fire.  Command 45 arrived and reported a one story single family dwelliing with heavy smoke showing.  Engine 45 w/3 arrived behind the chief, established a water supply and stretched the atteck line.  Tower 45 w/4 and Ledder 44 w/7 arrived as the 1st and 2nd special services and went to work opening the roof and doing the searches.  KCMD E-2 had the second due engine and stretched the 2nd line.  Tanker 44 supplied Engine 45.  Additional crews arrived behind the the first and second due units and assisted with opening up and overhaul.  The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes.  One resident was transported to Bay Health ER in Dover by A-64 with half of KM6 onboard with burn injuries.. A neighbor who attempted to fight the fire was treated on scene for smoke inhulation but refused transport.  The fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshals Office.  Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap had the Clayton Command.  Photo's courtesy Gene Shaner.  Middletown Tower 27 and Hartly Squad 51 covered the Clayton/Smyrna area.  Units responding; Command 45, Engine 45, 44-3, KCMD 2, Tower 45, Ladder 44, Squads 45, 26, Tankers 44, 26, KCMD 2, Rescue 45, Brush 45, Ambulances A-64, B-64, B-43, KM6, KM5, FM 28 (Brode).
