Monday, October 17, 2022

Monday morning just prior to lunch at 11:27am the station was alerted for the commercial vehicle on fire in the 5600 block of Millington Road.  Command 45 with Deputy Chief Jeff Lightcap arrived to find a trash truck on fire with fire in the trash portion of the truck.  Engine 45 w/5, Assistant Chief Austin Moorhead and Squad 45 w/6, Firefighter Franks Sacco IV arrived behind the chief and placed 2 handlines in service.  The trash truck was carrying recycled items and because some hydralic lines were damaged in the fire could not dump the contents out on the roadway.  Crews went to work with the long task of flooding the storage area with water to extinquish the fire.  With a lack of water in that area of the district a engine and tanker from Station 44 was requested to the scene.  Crews worked for over an hour to extinquish the fire.  Deputy Chief Lightcap had the Clayon Command.  Units responding;  Command 45, Engine 45, Squad 45, Engine 44-3, T-44, Sta 45 & 44 Fire Police, DSP and DELDOT.  Photo's courtesy Jeff Lightcap.
