~~Virginia D. Cubbage, of Clayton, passed away on June 22, 2015. She was 86. She was born on May 13, 1929 in Smyrna, DE, the daughter of the late Clifton J. Donovan, Sr and Ethel Csombok Donovan. She graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna, DE in 1947. She retired in 1990 as the Town Clerk from the Town of Clayton after 30 years of service. She was a Charter Life Member of the Clayton Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Ewell’s-St. Paul Methodist Church, Clayton. Virginia was a caring and giving person who took great pride in her home, her flowers, and the Town of Clayton. She loved to read, do needlepoint, and visit with her many friends. She was preceded in her death by her parents, her husband James L. Cubbage, Sr.; her step father James S. Donaway, Sr.; and her brother Clifton J. “Buster” Donovan, Jr. She is survived by her son James L. Cubbage, Jr. (Nancy) of Smyrna; her sister Ethel M. “Peg” Foraker of Wilmington; a brother Rynear S. Donaway (Delores) of Clayton; her loving companion Austin W. Carey of Clayton; grandsons Michael J. Melvin (Shannon) of Locust Grove, GA; Gregory A. Smith (Whitney) of Milton, DE; great grandsons Logan & Noah Smith of Milton, DE; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews. The Officers and members of the Clayton Fire Company Auxiliary send our thoughts and prayers to Virginia's family and friends. She was a wonderful person and she will truly be missed.
