LADDER AND ENGINE GO TO SMYRNA FOR RESIDENTAL STRUCTURE FIRE

Saturday night after members had left the station from the earlier crab feast at just before midnight the station was alerted for the ladder and engine to assist Station 44 on a residntal structure fire in the 900 block of Sunnyside Road.  Quint 45 w/4, Captain Austin Moorhead arrived with Engine 44-2 to find a one story single family dwelling with heavy fire showing form the rear.  The engine company secured a water supply and placed a handline in service while the crew from Quint 45 did the primary search and threw ladders to the rear.  Engine 45-2 w/6, Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap arrived with 44-3 and picked up 44-2's supply line and supplied them.  The crew from 45-2 split with a firefighter going to the roof to assist with verticle ventilation while the rest went to work opening up the ceilings for the engine companies where they found heavy fire.  The engine crew from 43-3 placed a second line in service.  Crews were able to make quick work of the fire which was brought under control in under 30 minutes.  Crews remaind on scene to assist with overhaul.  Chief Francis Hartnett from Smyrna had the command.  The Delaware State Fire Marshalls Office is investyigating.  The last Clayton unit was back in quarters around 2am.  Engine 51-3 covered Station 45.  Photo's courtesy Mike Carroll.  Units responding; Engines 44-2, 44-3, 44-4, 45-2, 43-4, REscue 44, Quint 45, Tower 43, 44-10, Utility 45,  B-64, KM6, FM-15 (Sipple).
