BACK TO BACK ACCIDENTS IN SMYRNA

Saturday just ofter lunch at 12:21 and again at 12:23 the station was alerted to assist Station 44 Smyrna on back to back auto accidents in Station 44 first due.  Smyrna had several units on a community event and we were assisting them covering their district.  The first was a multi car accident at the intersection of Dupont Parkway and Joe Goldsbourgh Road.  Engine 45-3 w/8, Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap arrived and assisted the crews from Engines 44-4 and 44-2.  The crew from 45-3 assisted securing one of the vehicles that had struck a gas pump at the gas station on the corner.  Chief Hartnett (44-15) from Smyrna had the command on this accident.  While enroute to the first accident on Dupont Parkway Station 44 and 45 were alerted for a second accident of a bicyclist being struck by an auto at Duck Creek Road and Vandyke Greenspring Road.  With Rescue 45 w/5, Past Chief Robbie Johnson only a half mile away from this accident when it dispatched they redirected to the second accident.  The rescue arrived to find a subject laying in the roadway.  The crew from Rescue 45 and Ambulance 64 provided patient care.  That patient was transported to Bayhealth in Dover meeting ALS enroute.  Brush 45 w/4, Firefighter Joel Tallhammer also made the response to this scene.  Past Chief Johnson had command of the second accident.  Photo's courtesy of Jerry Hull and Joe Jones.
