COMPANY MOURNS THE PASSING OF PAST PRESIDENT GEORGE R. IVORY

The company is mourning the passing of Past President George R. Ivory Sr. who passed away on Monday July 11, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a long illness.  Past President Ivory was a member of the company for over 40 years where he served as Firefighter, Driver, Fire Policeman, Director, Vice President and President.  The company ask that you please keep the Ivory Family in your thoughts and prayers.  Below is Past President Ivory's obituary.

After a long battle with cancer, George Ronald Ivory Sr of Clayton peacefully passed away on July 11, 2022. Ron is survived by his wife of 31 years, Peggy K. Ivory of Clayton; eldest son George Ronald Ivory Jr. of Smyrna and Dean Ivory of Avondale, PA; Daughter in laws Jenny and Danielle Ivory, grand children, Ronald, Damen, Dunovan, Daphne, Dathan Ivory, and Danielle Estes; and great grand child Keagan Estes.

Ron was a lifetime member and Past President of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Company where he served for over 40 years. Additionally, he served as a member of the Delaware State Fire Police. Ron was also a member of the American Legion Post 14, Masonic Lodge, Smyrna VFW, and Ducks Unlimited. He retired from the State of Delaware in 2018 where he worked for the Department of Transportation for over 20 years. Prior to his service with the State of Delaware, he worked 28 years in Delaware City as a chemical plant mechanic and supervisor. Ron also maintained his own lawn mowing company.

Ron was an avid hunter and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles, tractors, and lawn mowers. More than anything, he loved watching his grandchildren. He was a generous man who loved his family dearly.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
